Court Restitution Running Behind

A woman who was found guilty of misusing funds intended for enhancing safety at a bus stop where a Lee County student was killed is facing charges for violating her probation. Randi Romanoff “Romanov”, age 33, has reportedly fallen behind on court-ordered restitution, as stated by legal documents. She has failed to pay $900 in restitution for the months of April, May, August, October, and December.

Romanoff had previously agreed to a plea deal in 2021, which required her to make monthly payments of $180 to repay $20,000 in restitution. This was a condition for her sentence.

Romanoff pleaded guilty in November to a scheme to defraud, second-degree grand theft, two counts of fraud, and one count of embezzlement.

Romanoff Created A Charity For The Young Girl Who Lost Her Life

In 2020, Romanoff was arrested for creating a nonprofit organization in the name of 8-year-old Layla Aiken, who tragically lost her life at a bus stop in Cape Coral. The nonprofit, called Lights for Layla, received over $72,000 in donations, with the intention of using the funds to improve safety at bus stops. However, some of the money was given to the Aiken family, while other portions were used for personal expenses such as stays at beach resorts, toll violations, and shopping.
